A day after Finance Minister Victor Boudreau nixed the idea of bringing electronic keno to New Brunswick, the president of the Atlantic Lottery Corporation says she hopes to bring the controversial new lottery game to the province.
Michelle Carinci, the president and chief executive officer of the lottery corporation that serves the four Atlantic provinces, appeared in front of New Brunswick's Standing Committee on Crown Corporations on Friday where she defended the concept of bringing keno to the province.
'I hope so, someday,' Carinci said of expanding the program to New Brunswick.
The Atlantic Lottery Corp. plans to roll out electronic keno in 200 bars and restaurants in Nova Scotia and P.E.I. in March.
Keno players purchase numbered tickets and draws are held every five minutes from noon until midnight. Players are limited to maximum bets of $10 per draw but there will be no other limit on the amount gamblers can spend in a day.
ALC busy implementing N.B.'s new gaming strategy
Carinci said the corporation is too busy implementing the province's new video lottery policy, which involves fewer machines, to roll out the new electronic game.

But she said keno will stay on the corporation's radar for potential expansion in future years.
'We've got to offer new forms of games, and keno could be one of those,' she said.
Carinci said the corporation hasn't formally proposed the game to the government. But she said the ALC board has discussed it and the government's deputy minister of finance is a member of that board.

Opposition Conservative MLA Bruce Fitch said it's obvious the Liberals don't want yet another gambling controversy, which he said makes Carinci's comments at the committee confusing.
'There is a mixed message here today, which is unfortunate,' Fitch said.
The ALC said the game isn't addictive but a Nova Scotia gambling research firm says the risks haven't been properly evaluated.
