Flight Review: China Southern (777-300ER) First Class
China Southern Airlines (CZ/CSN) is an airline that owns over 500 aircraft and has its main base at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN/ZGGG). CZ once had ten Boeing 777-200 planes, including 6 Boeing 777-200ERs. Of the ten B777-200s owned by China Southern, nine have long been retired. B-2051, which was the first B777-200 taken by China Southern, is the last B777-200 operated by the carrier. B-2051 was delivered on April 6, 1995. This veteran aircraft has served China Southern for 23 years.

On May 20, 2018, flight CZ6902 from Beijing (PEK) to Urumchi (URC) was the last commercial flight for B-2051. After this flight, this aircraft will retired from CZ’s fleet and will reach the end of its life. The retirement of the aircraft also means that the life of the China Southern Boeing 777-200 has come to an end. B-2051 is not only the first B777-200 for CZ, but was also the first Boeing 777 aircraft for any airline on mainland China. CZ was the fourth airline in the world to own a Boeing 777 after United Airlines, ANA, and British Airways.
CZ B777-200s executed not only normal passenger flights but also a multitude of special flights such as Peacekeeping charters, Pilgrimage charters, and so on. CZ is also the world’s first airline to fly a Boeing 777 over the Pacific nonstop. Furthermore, China Southern is the world’s first airline to fly a twin-engine aircraft to fly over the North Pole, a flight executed by a B777-200. For China Southern Airlines, the Boeing 777-200 is undoubtedly one of the greatest figures.
On June 30, 2017, China Southern B787s joined Xinjiang Company to replace certain B777-200s. In a few years, CZ will introduce even more wide-bodied aircraft, including additional Boeing 787s. These new aircrafts will replace B777-200 to fly the major routes of Xinjiang Company. New Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will fly some feeder routes.
After the last commercial flight for B-2051 on May 20, 2018, the crew members organized a small event to celebrate. Pictures from the event can be seen below.
